All-Screen Apple iPhone X is here, and it's the new iPhone you'll want

Apple iPhone X

Apple has commemorated the tenth anniversary of the iPhone with a special edition phone called Apple iPhone X. The announcement was made at an Apple campus event at the Steve Jobs Theater by Tim Cook, who said: "It's really amazing how much the iPhone affects to the world every day. " The iPhone X has been the subject of rumors for many months, and now all official details have been revealed.

Cook said the new iPhone was "the biggest breakthrough from the original iPhone." It's not pronounced iPhone X, by the way - it's the iPhone 10 "Ten", and the screen fills the entire front panel of the phone. It is made of surgical grade stainless steel, with glass on the back panel. It is resistant to water and dust, and is available in gray and silver. Our iPhone X hands reveal how impressed we were with the phone, but it is unclear why no other company made the iPhone X before Apple. Little of their technology is new, after all - here is a list that shows which phones originated some of their innovations.

The OLED display - the first on an iPhone X mobile - is called Super Retina Display and measures 5.8 inches, with a resolution of 2,436 × 1,125 pixels. Apple says it has cured issues with brightness and color accuracy that have sometimes plagued OLED screens in the past, and added Dolby Vision and HDR10 support for stunning video playback. It also includes the dynamic adjustment of TrueTone white balance, a feature that is also seen in the iPad Pro of 10.5 inches and the new models of iPhone 8.

The iPhone device is designed to be intuitive to use, despite having no buttons on the front, due to the size of the screen. It is a scroll up to reach the home screen, or you can use wake up wake up, or just tap the screen to get started. These gestures work throughout the operating system, for multitasking and to leave the applications. Siri is still activated by voice, or by using the larger side button. A double tap on the Apple Pays active side wake-up key.

Face ID

To unlock iPhone X without a start button, Apple has introduced Face Recognition, which calls Face ID. It works with the TrueDepth camera system, hidden in the notch at the top of the screen. Look at the phone, and light up your face, making it ready for an infrared camera to identify it. It even works in the dark. Using the Bionic A11 chip, a neural engine processes the image in real time and has been built specifically to mathematically map the shape and contours of its face.

Apple states that you are not confused by hairstyles, or if you are wearing a hat, or if you decide to grow a beard. According to Apple software boss Craig Federighi, the iPhone X model will be able to recognize your face through most of the sunglasses as well, as long as they allow through sufficient infrared light. Mask and image protections are in place, and face data is stored in the secure enclave within the Bionic A11 chip.

Do not worry that Face ID is less secure than other biometric systems; it is not, says Apple. The possibility that someone other than you unlock your phone with Touch ID is one in 50,000, but for Face ID it is one in a million. Apple Pay forces you to look at the phone when you pay, and works with existing applications that use Touch ID for authentication.

In addition to that, Apple has implemented some software protections against people stealing your phone and simply keeping it in your face to unlock it. For beginners, if you do not stare at the phone itself, it will not unlock. In addition, if you grab the buttons on both edges of the phone, the device will temporarily turn off face recognition.

If you remember when Apple first implemented the touch ID, you will remember some bumps and errors at the beginning, but many of those bugs should not exist with Face ID. In fact, developers will not even have to worry about its implementation: if an application uses touch ID, it will also automatically use Face ID. Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software, said the same in an interview with John Gruber at Daring Fireball. This is good news for developers who might be worried about having to code for a new authentication system.

Camera, A11 Bionic chip, and AR

The iPhone X camera has a 12-megapixel dual-lens rear camera with dual optical image stabilization, consisting of a f / 1.8 wide-aperture lens and a f / 2.4 telephoto aperture lens. The 7-megapixel front camera now supports portrait mode and features automatic image stabilization and exposure control. The new Apple image signal processor delivers advanced pixel processing and a new color filter. Both cameras use the new natural lighting effect introduced in the iPhone 8, and new augmented reality features. The video has also been upgraded with 4K to 60fps resolution movies now possible, plus slow-motion video at 240fps.

The iPhone X retains the Bionic A11 chip of the iPhone 8, a super-efficient 64-bit processor with a new graphics unit designed by Apple, which has 30 percent more speed than the existing unit. It has six cores, and better performance than the A10 Fusion chip. Performance cores are expected to provide a 25 percent increase in speed, and a 70 percent increase in all four cores. Inside there is a battery that will offer two hours more use than the iPhone 7 Plus, and has wireless charging. Apple will introduce a wireless charging mat called AirPower to charge the phone, a set or AirPods, and an Apple Watch at the same time.

Price and availability

The rumors put the Apple iPhone X price at $ 1,000, and that turned out to be correct. It will be available in 64GB or 256GB configurations and will be available for pre-order on October 27, with deliveries starting November 3. The good news is that Apple will sell iPhone X in 55 countries around the world. Concerns about the shortage of components were exaggerated, or Apple does not expect the phone to be sold in large quantities.

The iPhone X was the third phone announced by Apple on September 12, joining the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It followed the Apple Watch 3 Series, which comes with built-in cellular connectivity. The event also featured other new devices.

Update: Any application using Touch ID can automatically use Face ID.
